Ghalia Aamer, Founder and CEO

Title: Founder and CEO

Bio

I am a 19 year old entrepreneur and community leader studying international business at the University of Alberta. Most recently, I was selected to represent Canada as the country's youngest delegate for the G20 Young Entrepreneurs' Alliance Summit, championing youth entrepreneurship across the world. I realized my passion for entrepreneurship when I set out to become a tutor at the age of 13. I was unable to find a company that would hire me because of my age so I decided to launch my own business, Toon Tutors, with a goal of providing meaningful employment opportunities for young people and affordable educational tools for families.

My involvement with entrepreneurship continued when I joined the Junior Achievement (JA) Company Program in high school. Through JA, I built three different companies, served various roles including President, and led my company to win the Social Entrepreneurship of the Year award. I also represented the JA Company of the Year at the international Youth Summit in Calgary in 2019. In an effort to help peers foster interest in entrepreneurship, I started the first business-focused club at my high school, OSA Entrepreneurs. The club connected students with mentors and resources to teach them about entrepreneurship.

In 2020, I decided to merge my passion for business with my love for public speaking and debate by launching TalkMaze, a virtual coaching platform that connects learners from all around the world with high quality training. We work with schools and individuals to help students build effective communication skills. Beyond business, I am passionate about advocating for important causes in my community. I serve as the Co-Chair of Outrun the Stigma Edmonton, a non-profit dedicated to reducing stigma around mental health. I also regularly volunteers with organizations such as the Edmonton Community Legal Centre, helping low income individuals gain access to justice.

What I want to get from The Club is...
